Liza Gonen - A Noble Savage Portrait.

In March 2019, the first national watercolor competition was held in Israel by the International Watercolor Society-IWS Israel. The Second place won artist Liza Gonen.
She exhibited 13 paintings of animals, in the "Bet Ha"Omanim" in Kfar Saba, at an exhibition that concluded the competition. She has also participated in international festivals and exhibited in group exhibitions in Israel and around the world.

The animals in Liza's Paintings play a symbolic role, they represent personal qualities, character, reason, power, weakness, pain and joy ...
Brave as a lion, as cunning as a fox, noble as a deer, just as in the stories of the fables.
The animal paintings are a kind of human portrait, a reflection of the human soul, or at least some aspect of a person's personality.

In each of us you can find animal traits, and in every animal you can find human traits.
Through the animal paintings, Liza expresses everything that is human.
We are all sometimes like the animals, and sometimes the animals also have human traits.

Liza paints mainly in watercolor. Watercolor is considered by many to be the most challenging material to work with, any stain on the page stays there forever and unlike oil colors for example, cannot be erased or repaired.
On the other hand, watercolor is a medium that is much faster and has freedom and flow that does not exist in any other medium.
In watercolor, in every spot, random things happen on the paper, amazing things are created, just like magic.
In her paintings, Liza uses artist-quality colors and 100% cotton quality paper.
The use of archival materials provides a painting that retains its color and the paper it has been painted on lasts for generations.
